“The Cave”
is a short story by Edgar Allan Poe, first published in 1831. The title may refer to “The Cave of Fertility” mentioned in the story, or to Plato’s “Allegory of the Cave”. It also may be an allusion to the Latin poet Virgil’s descriptive poem Aeneid, Book VI, line 869: “Cave Canem! Beware of Dog!”
The narrator, who remains unnamed throughout the story, enters a cave with an unspecified companion looking for pirate treasure. They find various bones and other debris on the floor of the cave. Further inside they discover a human skeleton sitting against the wall with its hand clutching a piece of gold. The narrator takes the gold from the skeleton’s hand and places it in his own pocket. As he does so, he hears a loud noise coming from deeper inside the cave. His companion runs back outside in terror, leaving him alone. The Narrator proceeds further into the cave and finds himself in a large chamber full of bats and rats. In the center of the room is a large pit that emits strange noises. The Narrator falls into the pit and is pulled down by an unseen force into total darkness.
“The Swindlers”
is a 2017 South Korean crime drama film directed by Jang Hang-jun? The film stars Yoo Ji-tae, Kim Yun-seok, Bae Sung-woo, and Park Hee-soon. It was released on November 1, 2017.
The movie follows the story of a group of con artists who team up to take down a corrupt politician. Yoo Ji-Tae plays the leader of the group, while Kim Yun-Seok plays the politician they are targeting. Bae Sung-woo and Park Hee-soon play two of the other members of the group.

“Pee Mak”
is a 2013 Thai horror comedy film directed by Banjong Pisanthanakun and Parkpoom Wongpoom? The film stars Mario Maurer, Davika Hoorne, Nadech Kugimiya, and Ittirit Somnam. The story is set in the early Rattanakosin Kingdom period in Bangkok and follows Mak (Maurer), a young husband who goes off to war leaving his pregnant wife Nak (Hoorne) behind. When he returns home, he finds that she has given birth to their son but she appears to be suffering from postpartum depression. Mak takes her to see a shaman who tells him that she is possessed by a vengeful spirit. Mak must find a way to save his wife and child from the ghost before it’s too late.
“Pee Mak” is an incredibly entertaining film that does an excellent job of mixing humor with horror. The acting is top-notch all around, with Maurer especially standing out as the lovestruck husband whose only goal is to protect his family.
